In the past two decades, there have been major developments in Korean art, as the country has opened up under the influence of globalization. This unprecedented book focuses on the work of twelve of Korea's most significant artists. An introduction by Joan Kee and a chronology track the development of contemporary art in Korea from the twentieth century to the present day. Essays by Lynn Zelevansky and Christine Starkman discuss the twelve artists featured: Kimsooja, Bahc Yiso, Do Ho Suh, Choi Jeong-Hwa, Gimhongsok, Jeon Joonho, Kim Beom, Koo Jeong-A, Minouk Lim, Jooyeon Park, Haegue Yang, and Young-hae Chang Heavy Industries. These artists work in a range of media, including sculpture, drawing, video, installation and performance, and the World Wide Web. The book also includes artists' interviews and brief biographies.

Lynn Zelevansky is curator and department head of modern and contemporary Art, at the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art. Christine D. Starkman is curator of Asian art at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Joan Kee is author or editor of writings on film and art from many Asian countries. Sunjung Kim is an independent curator based in Seoul, Korea.
