Yale is shortlisted for 'Trade Publisher of the Year' at the IPG Independent Publishing Awards 2012

Yale University Press has been nominated for the 'Bookseller Trade Publisher of the Year' award at the IPG's Independent Publishing Awards 2012. The shortlist of top trade publishers was drawn up by a panel of industry experts. Commenting on Yale's nomination the IPG said "Yale is nominated after a year of impressive sales and efforts to make its books accessible to a broad market, winning several awards along the way. Judges admired its digital innovation and export sales in particular. Yale gets the balance between intelligent books and popular appeal just right." The winner will be announed on Thursday 8 March.

How well do you know Van Gogh's paintings? To celebrate the publication of Van Gogh: Up Close, our new book exploring Van Gogh’s use of detail, we're giving away a free copy to the entrant that can identify three Van Gogh paintings from close-ups alone. All this week we have been using Twitter and this website to post three close-ups of Van Gogh's work. All you need to do is follow us on Twitter and tweet us the names of the paintings, or keep an eye on this website and email us with the three correct answers. We have now posted all three images, so you have until 5pm to enter... good luck!

'Vauxhall Gardens' wins the 2012 J.B. Jackson Prize for landscape studies

David E. Coke and Alan Borg have been awarded the J.B. Jackson Prize given by the Foundation for Landscape Studies, for their acclaimed book Vauxhall Gardens: A History. The prize is awarded to the author(s) of an outstanding landscape studies book published within the past three years (there are no restrictions on period, topic or nationality). The prize 'seeks to support authors with an ability to write for a general readership as well as for a scholarly audience'. Vauxhall Gardens won due to its success in expanding the field of landscape studies to new areas.
